Resolution Life, a global life insurance group focusing on reinsurance and the acquisition and management of portfolios of life insurance policies, announces the appointment of Ruth Farrugia as Chief Investment Officer as part of a planned transition, effective September 2024.
Ruth is a senior finance executive with over 20 years’ experience in the asset management sector and joins from MetLife Investment Management where she was Global Head of Insurance Asset Management. In this role, Ruth was responsible for the execution of investment strategies for the MetLife general account and development of strategic solutions for insurance company third party clients. Prior to this, Ruth held a variety of roles within the Investments division at MetLife including Head of EMEA Portfolio Management and Head of Investments for Western and Central Europe.
Ruth holds a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) focused on Banking, Corporate Finance and Securities Law from the University of Oxford (Pembroke College), Faculty of Law.
Ruth is succeeding Karl Happe, who was fundamental in initiating and building Resolution Life’s relationship with Blackstone and leading the repositioning of the asset portfolio.
Ruth’s appointment comes on the back of strong momentum for Resolution Life in the last 12 months having recently appointed Moses Ojeisekhoba as President, signed partnerships with Nippon Life and Blackstone as part of the $3bn equity capital raise, completed an inaugural $500 million Tier 2 listed debt issuance, closed three reinsurance transactions and acquired Suncorp’s New Zealand life insurance company, Asteron Life.
